Solo is shutting down: how to export your site with its images
Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Mozilla or Solo. Dates and export steps come from Solo's public Shutdown FAQ (October 2026).
Mozilla's Solo website builder is closing. Solo says: "All Solo websites and data will be deleted on November 30, 2026. There will be no way to recover your site, account, or data after that date." (Solo Shutdown FAQ)
This page covers the free part: getting your export, getting your images back, and putting the site online again.
What Solo's export gives you, and what it leaves out
- An HTML export of your website, a CSV file with links to your images, and your contact form and newsletter submissions, all in one ZIP. (Solo Shutdown FAQ)
- Not the images. Solo says: "Image source files are not included in the ZIP. Download each image individually from the links in the CSV file before the shutdown date on November 30, 2026." (Solo Shutdown FAQ)
- Your customers' names and emails sit in the same ZIP as your website, so it isn't safe to upload the ZIP to a host as it is.
Step 1: Download your data from Solo
- Log in to Solo.
- Click the menu at the top right and select Account Settings.
- In the Account Settings popup, click Download Website Data.
(Solo Shutdown FAQ) Save the ZIP somewhere safe. Do this before November 30, 2026.
Step 2: Run the free tool to get your images back
Site Export Rescue reads your Solo export ZIP, downloads the images from the links in it, and rewrites the HTML to use local copies. You get two downloads:
- Website (ready to host):
website-ready-to-host.zip, withindex.htmland animages/folder. This is the only thing you put on a host. - Your form data (private, don't upload this):
private-form-data-do-not-upload.zip, with your contact form and newsletter submissions plus a short report. It contains your customers' names and emails. Keep it on your computer.
Your export stays in your browser. Public images and styles are downloaded through our server.
Styles and fonts come through too if you run it before Nov 30, but give it a quick look. Anything Solo has already removed gets skipped and listed in report.txt.
It's free, needs no account, and you don't need to buy anything to use it.
Step 3: Host the folder for free
Unzip website-ready-to-host.zip. Open folders until you see index.html and images/ side by side. That folder is your website. Double-click index.html first to check the images show.
Then pick one free host:
- Cloudflare Pages: Workers & Pages → Create → drag and drop your files. It accepts a folder or a ZIP, up to 1,000 files and 25 MiB per file, and your site goes live at
<project-name>.pages.dev. (Cloudflare: Direct Upload) - Netlify Drop: drag the folder onto
app.netlify.com/drop. Log in first: a site dropped without an account stays password-protected until you claim it. (Netlify: Drop quickstart)
Upload the contents of the folder that has index.html in it, so index.html sits at the top of your site next to images/.
Step 4: Keep the form-data ZIP private
Never upload private-form-data-do-not-upload.zip, or any file from it, to a web host. Anything on a host can be found and downloaded by anyone who has the address. Keep it on your computer plus one private backup. Your old messages and newsletter signups are in its two CSV files, which open in any spreadsheet app.
Solo's contact form stops working when Solo closes, and a static host can't run it. Replace it with a form service or a plain email link.
Step 5: Point your domain at the new site
- Bought through Solo Domains (not IONOS): Solo moves these to Name.com. Create or log in to a Name.com account, fill in your account contacts, copy your Account Code from the top right of the dashboard, and email it to support@soloist.ai. Solo emails you when the transfer is done. (Solo Shutdown FAQ)
- IONOS or another registrar: nothing to transfer. Log in there.
Then add the domain in your host's dashboard ("custom domains"), and add the DNS records it shows you at your registrar. Leave your email (MX) records alone. DNS changes can take up to 48 hours.
Get the kit for hosting, domain and form steps
The Solo Site Rescue Kit ($12) covers the part after the export, step by step: separate paths for Cloudflare Pages, Netlify and GitHub Pages, moving a custom domain (Solo Domains to Name.com, IONOS and other registrars) with a DNS checklist, replacing the contact form with Formspree, and troubleshooting for missing images, wrong folders, DNS delays and HTTPS warnings. It includes free updates through November 30, 2026. The tool stays free and works on its own; the kit is only for people who want exact steps.

Other options
If you'd rather move to WordPress, Automattic (the company behind WordPress.com) has a free, public command-line tool called Data Liberation Agent. It added Solo support on October 6 to 7, 2026, and works from your live Solo site address, so it also needs to run before November 30. It's aimed at people comfortable with a terminal. (GitHub: Automattic/data-liberation-agent, Soloist support issue)
Solo itself suggests Wix, Squarespace and WordPress, or AI builders such as Bolt or Lovable, if you'd rather rebuild. (Solo Shutdown FAQ)
FAQ
When does Solo delete my site?
Solo says all sites and data will be deleted on November 30, 2026, with no way to recover them after that. (Solo Shutdown FAQ)
Why aren't my images in the Solo export?
Solo's ZIP only has a CSV of image links. Solo says to download each image individually before November 30, 2026. The free tool does that for you. (Solo Shutdown FAQ)
What happens to my export when I use the tool?
Your export stays in your browser. Public images and styles are downloaded through our server.
Will my layout and fonts come through?
Usually. Styles and fonts come through too if you run it before Nov 30, but give it a quick look. Anything Solo has already removed is listed in report.txt.
What's in the private form-data ZIP?
Your contact form and newsletter submissions (names, emails and messages), plus the image list and a report. Keep it on your computer. Never put it on a web host.
Will my contact form still work?
No. Solo's form stops when Solo closes. Use a form service or an email link on your new host.
Do I need to buy the kit?
No. The tool is free and works on its own. The kit is a $12 step-by-step guide for hosting, domains and the contact form.
Is this made by Mozilla or Solo?
No. The tool, this page and the kit are made by labyrinth lab. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Mozilla or Solo.
