Move a Solo site to Carrd

Carrd cannot import the tool's HTML ZIP. You rebuild in Carrd's editor. Downloaded Carrd source cannot be uploaded back either. (Downloading a site)

Need the HTML online as-is? Host it on Cloudflare Pages or Netlify.

Start from the tool ZIP

  1. Unzip website-ready-to-host.zip. Stop when index.html sits next to images/ (and assets/ if styles were saved).
  2. Open each HTML page in a browser. In Carrd: Add Element → Text, then paste the copy. (Basics)
  3. Upload files from images/. For a full-page photo: Background → Style Image → Upload. (Background image)
  4. Keep private-form-data-do-not-upload.zip off the web. Old messages are in contact_form_submissions.csv and newsletter_submissions.csv.

Do not paste the whole index.html into an Embed. Embeds need Pro Standard and are for snippets, not a full site. (Embedding custom code)

What carries over / what doesn't

PagesRebuild. Nested HTML files (about/index.html) become extra Carrd sections or sites, not an import.
TextCopy-paste into Text elements.
ImagesReuse files in images/. Upload them; don't leave Solo URLs.
Styles / fontsDo not carry over. assets/_next/ CSS and fonts stay in the ZIP.
FormsDo not work. The tool strips Solo scripts. Carrd contact forms need Pro Standard. Use an email link on Basic. (Contact form)
Form submissionsNot on the Carrd site. CSV rows in the private ZIP only.

Custom domain

If you bought the domain through Solo Domains (not IONOS), move it to Name.com first. (Solo Shutdown FAQ)

Carrd custom domains need Pro Standard or higher. On that plan: Publish → Publish to a custom domain, then add the A and CNAME records Carrd shows at your registrar. Free sites stay on a .carrd.co URL. (Custom domain · Plans)
